The Kiss

I wrote this poem on July 22, 2008. It was the summer before my 8th grade year.

The Kiss

He waits for the moment they soon will be one
He has dreamed of this day ever since he was young

When the organ starts playing
The people arise
They all turn around
And he follows their eyes

There she is!
As beautiful as she could be
She is graceful
Like a perfect harmony

She comes to the front
Clutching her daddy's hand
Then the preacher asks
"Who gives her to this man?"

At that moment
She looked in his eye
Gave him a kiss
It seemed like goodbye

But then she turned
To see her man
This is who she would depend on
This is what God has planned

He takes her hands
And she takes his
Both are awaiting
Their moment of bliss

When they said their "I do's"
It went far too slow
They awaited the moment
He would give the "go"

As soon as he said
"I am proud to announce"
The audience cheered
But that's not an ounce!

He gave them permission
The now "husband and wife"
So they looked at each other
Without any strife

The world seemed to stop
For a moment or few
When they sealed their promise
With not one kiss...but two!

As they walked out of the chapel
Now husband and wife
The crowd was amazed
At how they lived life

Neither of them
Had ever before
Kissed anyone else
And that was a chore!

They saved their first kiss
For their one true love
And enjoyed the bliss
From the Father above
